The Vermont Association of American Mothers was established in 1942, when Mrs. Inez Bryan of Montpelier, the state capital, was chosen as Mother of the Year.

The Vermont Association members gather three times a year at different sites around the state to work on a service project and learn from speakers, and during the spring meeting members celebrate the Vermont Mother of the Year.  Members also choose a social concern to focus on each year; recent projects include donating baby items to a shelter for at risk young mothers and donating filled backpacks for “back-to-school”.

Notable members of the Vermont Association include Rita McCaffrey, 1987 National Mother of the Year; Lise Gates, 2017 National Mother of Achievement; and 2018 Outstanding Military Mother, Amy Rounds. Several members have served on the National Board of Directors, including Carol Willey who is the current Area 4 Coordinator, and in the state legislature, where they keep their eye on family issues.
