The Nebraska Mother’s Association selected their first Mother of the Year in 1937, Harriette Flora Gray from Omaha who was also named the 1937 National Mother of the Year.  The Nebraska Association has one State Chapter that meets in Columbus or Seward several times a year (usually three or more as needed).  Their statewide annual service project is the ABC quilts which benefits those individuals and organizations who need additional warmth every year. They also participate in several service projects annually, gathering clothing, toiletries, etc. for the homeless, abused families, mothers and children.  The Nebraska Mothers Association is teaming up with the Nebraska Coalition on Human Trafficking by educating groups, hotel/motel employees and schools on the dangers of Human Trafficking.  They sponsor a Junior High School Quiz Bowl and members volunteer for this event to help as readers, run errands, etc.  Each year a Recognition Ceremony is held at the State Capital for the new Mother of the Year and Merit Mom. They also participate in the American Mothers National 5th Grade Essay contest, a  statewide project in which the top ten 5th Grade Essay winners across the state are recognized and read their essays (with their mother/grandmother, etc.) standing beside them at the State Capital on the same day as the Mother of the Year Recognition Ceremony.
