What do you need to start a local chapter of American Mothers?
It is simple really!
- Gather 15 mothers to join AMI in your area
- Commit to holding at least two meetings per year
- Plan ONE annual service project benefiting a local nonprofit of your choice
- Nominate exemplary mothers in your state for the Mother of the Year award
- Invite local 5th-grade students to participate in the "What My Mother Means to Me" essay contest
- Send us pictures of your meetings and events. Let us inspire mothers around the country with the good that you do.
As you affiliate with American Mothers, we will help your chapter of AMI work to receive 501c3 tax exempt status providing you with legal guidelines for effective nonprofit governance, and we will give fundraising training and advice as needed.

Recognize Mothers in your Community
American Mothers, Inc. is committed to giving mothers the public recognition they deserve for the good that they do!
Every year, mothers are NOMINATED across the country for the Mother of the Year® award, a registered trademark of American Mothers, Inc. While only ONE woman can represent your state as the official Mother of the Year®, local chapters provide a great opportunity for you to honor many mothers with awards and recognition.
Encourage Others to Recognize Mothers
Each year, American Mothers, Inc.® sponsors an essay contest for all fifth grade students or the equivalent, in the public, private and home school environment. The contest theme is "What My Mother Means to Me." Winners are selected by state, and one National winner is invited to read their essay at the annual American Mothers, Inc. Convention and receives a $500 Golden Rule Grant to benefit the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization of their choice.
Teach Kindness
The Golden Rule Movement encourages moms to do what they do best, teach kindness to others. The Golden Rule Movement creates a more positive and empathetic culture in America by empowering, educating, and inspiring women to lead by example and model kindness and compassion through volunteerism and acts of service in their local communities. The Golden Rule Movement provides a platform for women who embody the selfless, caring spirit of motherhood, and who are using that maternal energy to make the world a better place.
Serve Together
American Mothers, Inc. has a long history of service in the community. Whether you are hosting a school supply drive, volunteering at a food pantry, making blankets, cleaning a park, teaching a class, or hosting an event, even a small group of dedicated mothers can make a big difference.
